Thalerhof Memorial Day August 9th

ChapelCrop

Thalerhof Memorial Chapel at Lemko Association headquarters in Higganum

WHEN: Saturday, August 9th, 2014 – rain or shine, there will be a big tent
WHERE: Lemko Association Headquarters, 184 Old County Road, Higganum, Connecticut
WHAT:

  • 9:00 am – Biennial meeting of the Lemko Association (49th Lemko Association Convention). All may attend but only members may vote.
  • 11:00 am – Moleben to the Mother of God and Panachida (prayers for the dead) in memory of the victims of the Thalerhof concentration camp, 1914-1917, and all those who lost their lives in connection with WWI and WWII.
  • 1:00 pm – Vatra (picnic). Bring a picnic lunch, food will also be available for sale.

WHAT TO BRING: Since the morning program commemorates the deaths of thousands of people, please wear appropriate clothes. Bring picnic wear for the afternoon.

Please remember it may be hot or rainy and since the meeting place is on a farm, solid shoes and covering clothes would be a good idea; who knows what the bugs might be up to?

Children are welcome but should be supervised and not allowed to wander off into the woods.

GETTING THERE: Higganum is a section of the town of Haddam, just south of the city of Middletown, in the very center of Connecticut. Please enter Old County Road via the intersection of Killingworth Road (Route 81) and Beaver Meadow Road. Although there is an Old County Road sign on Route 81, that section of Old County Road is impassible. If using a GPS, set it for the intersection of Killingworth Road and Beaver Mountain Road, then continue 0.8 miles to 184 Old County Road.

RSVP!
We really need to know how many people are coming in order to have food on hand! So please RSVP by August 1st by calling 860-345-7997 or emailing us.
